What is Mother’s Day all about?

In Australia, in 1924, Janet Heyden started the tradition of giving gifts to Mothers at Newington State home for women. She’d met lonely women there and wanted to cheer them up. She rounded up children and businesses to donate and give gifts to the women. This is the heart of Mother’s Day.

Mums are often celebrated with burnt toast and a cold cuppa, with tea towels and school bought trinkets. We celebrate with flowers, chocolates, and thoughtfully written cards. These things are cherished with the same enthusiasm with which they are given.

As florists it’s a busy time hard work, sore hands and backs but it’s an honour to be included in your celebration. We do our thing with care and diligence because we understand how worthy Mums are of your love and appreciation.

However you honour the Mothers in your life we wish you a wonderful time of celebration In appreciation of the Mothers you were gifted with, in remembrance of the Mothers that have gone before and with a hope for the Mothers that are yet to come.

Mother’s Day is on the 10th May 2015. You can flowers for your Mother from our website or by calling Newcastle Florist on 02 4961 1447
